Montessori language
Montessori materials for language, for children aged 1–9.
Language begins long before letters — in conversation, songs and naming real objects. Then come the sounds: sandpaper letters are traced with a finger so shape, sound and movement are learned together. With the movable alphabet a child can build words from sounds before the hand can form letters, which is why writing often precedes reading in Montessori. The materials are sound-based rather than letter-name-based.
