Wooden Multiplication Board
The multiplication board turns multiplication into something a child can touch and see, rather than just recite. The child places the number tile for the factor being multiplied in its slot, then moves a marker step by step, filling the board with beads all the way through the table — so "4 times 3" becomes three groups of four beads, concrete and countable. By building each table themselves, children discover the patterns behind multiplication and enjoy a calm, self-correcting exercise where the hands guide the thinking before the facts need to be memorised.
What to look for:
- Natural materials: choose a board and beads in wood rather than lacquered plastic — more pleasant to handle and more durable over time.
- Child-sized pieces: beads and tiles should be easy for a 6–9-year-old's fingers to grip; keep in mind that the small parts can be a choking hazard for younger siblings.
- Complete set: check that the marker, number tiles 1–10, and enough beads are all included, ideally with a small storage box.
- Clear numerals: engraved or printed numbers that stand up to many hands — not stickers that peel off.
At home it fits beautifully at the kitchen table: let your child choose one table at a time and finish building it before moving on.
